Peggy is Hyperliquid's grandmother. She was a Cosmos bridge born in 2017. In 2021 she was renamed out of existence,
and four years later her words are still guarding the contract that holds Hyperliquid's money.
It's a story about a forgotten ancestor, not a scandal. Nobody did anything wrong. She was just forgotten.
One-liners:
- "Hyperliquid's vault has a grandmother. Her name was Peggy."
- "They renamed her. They couldn't rename what she said."
- "Supplied validators and powers do not match checkpoint." (Peggy, 2020. Still talking.)
The story in four chapters (all verifiable)
1. Birth, 2017. Cosmos needed a way to hold Ethereum's money. The technical term was "peg zone", and the bridge got a
name: Peggy. Her repo, cosmos/peggy, was created on 27 Oct 2017.
2. Her prime, 2020. Developers at Althea made her real. She kept a "checkpoint" of who guards the vault, and her one
job was refusing anyone who didn't match it. Her refusal message: "Supplied validators and powers do not match
checkpoint."
3. Erased, 24 Mar 2021. One commit, all: rename peggy to gravity, touched 192 files. Even her repo now redirects to a
new name. She was named after something they stopped doing, so they stopped saying her name.
4. Still guarding the vault, 2023 to today. Hyperliquid builds its bridge on her design. The contract holding the USDC
still refuses intruders in her words, with one word changed each time: validators → current validators → active
validators.
